Description<br>For your consideration is a Simons Brothers sterling silver thimble.<br>The thimble is decorated with a flowers around half of the bottom.<br>The size is 9 and is marked as such on the thimble.<br>The inside is marked with the maker’s mark for the Simons Brothers Company along with ‘STERLING SILVER’.<br>The Simons Brothers Company was founded by George Washington Simons in Philadelphia in 1839.<br>In 1858, George W. Simons & Brother is described as employing 60 people and manufacturing "gold and Silver pen and pencil cases ... gold, silver and steel topped thimbles, finger shields, tooth and ear picks, watch keys, gold pens, cane heads, bracelets, breast pins, earrings, finger rings, sleeve buttons, studs, guard slides, charms, seals, badges, etc.<br>During the Civil War, Simons added officers and presentation Swords to their line. Many of the finest Presentation Swords were made by this firm. Swords with gold hilts set with gems and etched and engraved blades are prized holdings at the Pennsylvania Historical Society in Philadelphia and the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis.<br>In the late 1800s Simons Brothers and Company became official jewelers for various fraternities.<br>The company is still produces fine gold and sterling silver products today.<br>Condition<br>No damage is noted.
